Wheaton rallied from an early 5-1 deficit and then broke a 6-6 tie with a run in the bottom of the 7th and handed the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons their 4th straight loss with a 7-6 win during the Maroons’ Spring Break trip to Northern Illinois.
The Maroons took the early lead with a 4-run second inning and then added another run in the top of the third. The big hit in the second inning outburst was an RBI double from Evan Lear. Matthew Yates drove in the run in the top of the third with an infield single.
Wheaton then rallied with two in the bottom of the third, three in the bottom of the fourth, and then the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth.
Lear led the Madisonville offense, going 2-4 with a double, three RBIs, and a run scored. Lane Faulk ended up 2-4. Brantley Harris, Alex Richards, Matthew Yates, and Jaziyon Latham added one hit each.
Lane Faulk got the start for the Maroons on the mound. He went four innings, giving up six runs, only three of them earned, on six hits, striking out three, and walking five.
