Four new opponents and a revamped district alignment highlight Caldwell County’s 2025 football schedule.
Gone from the Tigers’ slate are Class 6A schools McCracken County and Christian County, along with 5A teams Madisonville-North Hopkins and Graves County.
Joining the Caldwell schedule are 5A Marshall County, 3A Webster County and new 2A district adversaries in Fort Campbell and Todd County Central.
Caldwell head coach Aaron McClung recently finalized the new slate after nailing down two scrimmage foes.
Caldwell’s two preseason contests will see them go to Greenwood High School in Bowling Green on Friday, Aug. 8, before traveling to Apollo in Owensboro on Aug. 15.
The 2025 season officially kicks off with a trip to Hopkins County Central on Aug. 22. Caldwell won last year’s matchup 42-6 but the Storm holds an 8-4 advantage all-time.
Caldwell and Marshall County will meet for the first time in 20 years when the Marshals visit Tiger Stadium for the Tigers’ home opener on Aug. 29. Marshall has won the last seven meetings between the two schools and leads all-time 18-9.
Union County, last year’s Class 3A state runner-up, will be in Princeton on Sept. 5. The Braves have won the last two meetings, but Caldwell leads the series 22-12.
The Tigers make their first visit to Webster County for an official game in 18 years when they go to Dixon Sept. 12. The Tigers won 56-0 in 2007, then beat the Trojans 49-7 in Princeton in 2008 before the series was discontinued. Caldwell has won the last six meetings and leads all-time 24-7.
Trigg County is hardly new to the Caldwell schedule but becomes a district opponent this fall. The Wildcats will head to Tiger Stadium on Sept. 19. The Tigers have won 12 straight in the annual 139 Bowl matchup and now lead the series 49-22-1. Caldwell and Trigg are the longest continuous teams on each others’ schedules, having met every season since 1954.
Fort Campbell rejoins Caldwell’s 1st District after spending the last two years in the 2nd District and off the Tigers’ schedule. However, the two teams hooked up in the first round of the playoffs last season with Caldwell winning 51-22 at Fort Campbell. The Tigers have won 10 straight in the series and lead 20-17. Caldwell will host the Falcons on Sept. 26.
Mayfield remains a district foe and will visit Tiger Stadium for Senior Night on Oct. 3. The Cardinals beat Caldwell twice last season and now own a 12-game win streak in the series. Mayfield leads all-time 48-9-1.
It’s been 30 years since the Tigers traveled to Elkton to take on Todd County Central. But Caldwell will make that trip Oct. 17 for a district date. The Rebels’ only win in the series came in 1995. However, Caldwell won in Princeton in 1996 the last time the two schools met on the gridiron and leads all-time 10-1.
The fifth and final district game on the schedule is Oct. 24 at Crittenden County. The Tigers won 36-27 in Princeton last year. Caldwell holds a 45-12 advantage all-time.
The 2025 regular season will end with a trip to Murray on Oct. 31. The Murray Tigers will no longer be a district opponent for Caldwell, with Murray moving to Class 3A this fall, but the two schools have played 40 times going back to the 1950s. Murray leads the series 22-17-1.
The Class 2A playoffs will begin Nov. 7. However, unlike recent years, Caldwell does not have an automatic pass to the postseason. With the district growing from four teams to six, the Tigers will likely need at least two district wins to earn a postseason bid.
Caldwell finished last season with a 5-7 record, but figures to be competitive with almost everyone on its 2025 schedule.
On a recent episode of The Sideline Report on WPKY Radio, McClung gave a preview of what he expects from the Tigers this fall….
McClung is entering his third season as head coach at Caldwell County. McClung was an assistant coach for the Tigers from 2003-2021, beginning as the offensive line coach and then being defensive coordinator from 2011-21.
