Trigg County finished its trip to Alabama on Saturday with a 5-4 walk-off loss to Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, putting the wraps on a 3-2 visit to the Bob Jones Invitational.
In Saturday’s single-elimination tournament, Trigg County jumped out to a quick lead on a three-run homer by Kady Fuller – her third round-tripper in as many days. It was also the 11th of Fuller’s career, setting the career Trigg County record previously held by Hannah Colbert (10) and Rylee Hendricks (9).
Mount Juliet (14-4-1) got two runs back in the second inning on a two-out, two-run home run by Brookelynn Aldridge.
The Bears took a 4-3 lead with two singles, a sacrifice fly, and a single by Chloe Younggren.
In the sixth inning, Trigg County tied the game when Fuller walked and Tember Oliver singled. Jayden Visingardi scored Fuller on a groundout.
In the home half of the sixth inning, Trigg got two outs, but three walks and a single by Hale gave the Bears the win. Younggren had three hits for the Class 4A Bears, who also got four hits from their eighth and ninth hitters.
Oliver had two of Trigg County’s five hits, with Livia Breckel adding a double.
On Friday, Trigg County suffered its first loss of the event with a 9-4 setback to Deshler (20-10), a Class 4A school from Tuscumbia, Alabama.
The Lady Wildcats were in a giving mood, which is good at Christmas but not good on the softball diamond. Three Trigg errors led to seven unearned runs, and to make matters worse, seven of Deshler’s runs were scored with two outs.
Six Lady Wildcats had singles with MaKenna Hendricks adding two RBI.
Lily Eagleson (0-3) was the tough-luck loser for the Lady Wildcats, who have allowed 13 unearned runs in her five starts.
Trigg County began Friday with a 10-0 win over host Bob Jones High School.
Fuller sparked a six-run second inning with a lead-off home run. Trigg used walks, a hit batter, a wild pitch, and an error to score five more times in what was a bizarre at times inning.
Emmalee Futrell added an RBI groundout in the third inning and Veyda Grinols followed with an RBI single.
Hendricks and Fuller each had two hits and an RBI, and Grinols drove in three runs. Maddie Smith added two RBI.
Oliver (7-3) spun a three-hit shutout, striking out nine and walking none.
Trigg County is scheduled to play at Muhlenberg County on Tuesday and at Logan County on Thursday as they begin the post-spring break schedule with just one home game left.
