
Hopkinsville banged out 14 hits and took advantage of some sloppy play by visiting Northeast to stop a two-game skid with a 14-4 five-inning victory on Thursday.
The Tigers evened their record at 5-5 ahead of a second matchup with Northeast on the road on Friday.
RBI singles by Layton Lindsey and Andrew Mayes highlighted the Tigers’ five-run first, but Northeast answered with three runs in the top of the second.
Joshua Embrey’s double brought in two runs, and Griffen Meacham’s RBI single restored the Tigers’ five-run cushion in the bottom of the second.
A run on a wild pitch and Jayden Kellum’s RBI single made it 10-3 in the third, John Payne singled in a run in the fourth, and runs on an error and a passed ball rounded out the scoring in the bottom of the fifth.
Mayes earned his second win of the season, allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits with five walks and four strikeouts over four and two-thirds. Gavin Powell came on to get the final out for the Tigers.
Mayes and Meacham led the way at the plate with two hits and two RBI, Powell and Embrey II each finished with two hits and a run driven in, and Kellum added a hit and three RBI.
Jackson Meece took the loss as Northeast fell to 8-15. He allowed 10 runs, six earned, on eight hits with three walks and a strikeout over two and a third innings. Matthew Robertson had two hits and an RBI for the Eagles.
