Madisonville-North Hopkins’ Mackenzie Stoltz was strong in the circle on Friday and Sydney Skeen crushed a solo home run to cap a 4-1 win over visiting Muhlenberg County for the Lady Maroons’ fourth-straight victory.
With the game scoreless in the top of the fourth, Stoltz pitched around an error, a double, and a walk to keep the Lady Mustangs off the scoreboard. Madisonville then took advantage of a Muhlenberg miscue to take the lead for good in the bottom of the inning.
Sadie Kirk’s RBI double in the fifth pushed the second Madisonville run across, and Skeen capped a three-run inning with a long ball to left field to make it 4-0.
Stoltz allowed three hits with nine strikeouts and three walks, with Muhlenberg’s lone run coming on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded in the sixth.
Kirk and Skeen each had two hits for the Lady Maroons, and Stoltz drove in a run.
Ava Carter took the loss for the Lady Mustangs, giving up four unearned runs on four hits with three strikeouts.
Madisonville improved to 9-6 ahead of a visit from Calloway County on Saturday. Muhlenberg slipped to 3-9 with its fourth loss in a row.
