
Lyon County took the early lead and then got four innings of no-hit baseball from starting pitcher Peyton Williams as the Lyons advanced to the 2nd Region baseball All A Classic championship game Friday night with a 6-0 win over Caldwell County.
Williams held the Tigers in check over his four innings of work, striking out five and walking three. Hudson Phillips came in to start the 5th inning and held the Tigers to two hits over the final three innings of the game.
Lyon County took the lead in the game with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. After the Lyons loaded the bases with a single and two walks, Colton Prow drilled a single to center to score a pair of runs. Brady Belt was thrown out at home on the play to end the top of the first with Lyon County holding a 2-0 lead.
The Lyons extended the lead to 3-0 in the top of the second. Lyon County loaded the bases on three straight singles from Peyton Williams, Turner Hurst, and Hudson Phillips. John Bingham then drove in a run when he grounded into a double play.
From that point on, Caldwell County starter Ari Wells settled in and shut down the Lyon County offense. The problem was the Tigers could not find a way to get runs on the board in their turns at the plate.
Lyon County would seal the win by putting three insurance runs on the board in the top of the sixth when Korben Lucas cleared the bases with a 3-run double to center.
For the game, Korben Lucas was 2-4 with a double, 3 RBIs, and a run scored. Austin Spears, Peyton Williams, and Hudson Phillips had two hits each for the Lyons. Colton Prow added two RBIs.
Ari Wells and Weston King had one hit each for Caldwell County.
Wells ended up going 4 ⅔ innings on the mound, giving up three runs on seven hits, striking out four and walking five.
