It was not the way the Fort Campbell Falcons wanted their first home game in nearly two years to go. A combination of pitching struggles and fielding miscues by the Falcons allowed Fort Knox to outscore Fort Campbell 16-12 in the annual game between the two schools from the state’s military installations.

The Falcons were charged with four errors, which allowed the Eagles to score 8 unearned runs. Fort Campbell pitching also gave up 12 walks and three hit batters in the game.

Fort Campbell used a Fort Knox error to score two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead.

Fort Knox rebounded with five runs in the top of the third and then erupted for 8 runs in the top of the fourth to run the lead out to 13-4.

The Falcons rallied with six runs in the bottom of the fourth to close to within 13-10. Michael Anderson, Noah Herron, and Corey Baker had big hits in the inning.

But that would be as close as the Falcons could get as Fort Knox added two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to secure the win and the trophy that goes to the winner of the game each year.

Noah Herron finished 3-5 with a triple, two RBIs, and three runs scored. Gavin Haler was 3-5 with a double, and three runs scored. Corey Baker ended up 1-4 with four RBIs for the game.

The Falcons drop to 1-9 with the loss.

The game was the first home game for the Falcons since April 26, 2023.
