Long-time recruiting guru Ron Briscoe has known new Kentucky point guard Jaland Lowe since he was only 2 or 3 years old.

“His father, Marland, would push him in a stroller to come watch his dad work out, and then his dad ended up coaching Houston Hoops AAU, a Nike team, for a long time. So I’ve been around that family a lot,” said Briscoe. “When I saw he was going into the (transfer) portal, I told my brother this was a guy Kentucky needs, and I hope he goes there. Then a few days later, he commits to Kentucky.”

Jaland Lowe played point guard for two years at Pittsburgh and averaged 16.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 1.8 steals, and 35.4 minutes per game last year when he had 10 games of 20 or more points.

“I saw him play almost every game last season. He is a dynamic player,” Briscoe said. “He is left-handed, but he can shoot with either hand. He is very good at getting by people with the ball. He has that floater in the lane. He’s really good at giving out assists. He’s a good defender, too, and a very good leader.”

Briscoe thinks Lowe will remind Kentucky fans of a player they loved having this season.

“He is almost like Lamont Butler. He’s almost a carbon copy of Butler. He might not be quite as big, but he is 6-3 and long, and he knows basketball just like Butler,” Briscoe said. “He grew up watching basketball and working out all the time.”

Lowe’s Godfather is John Lucas, an All-American guard at Maryland, a former No. 1 NBA draft pick, a 14-year NBA player, and a former NBA head coach.

“John wore number 15. Jaland wears number 15,” Briscoe said.

  1. High school recruits are setting in a blind spot to the transfers portal. I think you will see more high profile recruits will make there decisions later than sooner.

  2. Just got a commitment from one of the best players from Europe.

    Andria Jelavic. 6’11 220 pounds.
    Is this grade A beef?

    1. That’s a heck of a get. Turns 21 next month, been playing against grown men, has hit 52 3’s in last 53 games. His film is impressive. Kudos to Pope. He’s still just a 3/4 pounder. Now add a full pounder, two guards (atleast one true point guard) and the Cats will be in nice shape.

  3. Lowe is not a shooter, but he is a scorer, a solid defender, and he shares the rock. Garrison will hit the portal with this commitment because he knows Pope is still looking for another shot blocking, rebounding monster in the middle. Picking up Jelavac and Diaboute will give Quaintance more time to get ready to play, probably a December or January date IF all goes well with his rehab.

I look for Lowe and Chandler to play the point. Chandler will have a breakout season coming up. Oweh and Johnson will play the 2 spot as Oweh is prone to fouls and that will give Johnson plenty of PT. Williams and Noah will man the 3 and I expect Noah will step his game up too. Diaboute will have to hold down the 4 spot until Quaintance is ready to go. Diaboute will get the starter’s minutes he wants in pre-conference play and Quaintance can let the game come to him when he gets on the floor. Jelavac and Moreno will play the 5. Both will need to bulk up some this Summer. Pope is still looking for an enforcer who won’t get pushed around. With that being said, Garrison sees that too and will soon go to the portal. It will be hard for Perry to see much PT, especially if Chandler’s game blossoms.

We need one more oak tree in the middle. Florida will have a 7’9", 305 pound Goliath at center who makes Shaq look small. The best option I have seen as of today would be Gray from Missouri, a 7’0", 260 pound center. He had modest scoring and rebounding numbers, but Missouri didn’t run anything for him either. He would give us some bulk and height and 5 more fouls if Pope doesn’t find a better option.

  4. Pitt’s loss is Kentucky ‘s gain. Jaland Lowe is a talented guard who should shine in Coach Pope’s offense surrounded by elite players. Look for him to have a breakout year and opt for the NBA after one year with Kentucky.

  5. PG Jaland Lowe
    SG Lamar Wilkerson
    SF Otega Oweh
    PF Jayden Quaintance
    C Malachi Moreno

That’s A Final Four Starting Lineup!!! Wilkerson is the Final Piece to the Puzzle, Do Not Let him leave Lexington today without first getting a commitment from him!! Go Cats!!
