The Hopkins County Central Lady Storm took a big step towards the #3 seed for the 7th District softball tournament as they swept a district doubleheader against the Dawson Springs Lady Panthers on Tuesday night.
In the first game, Hopkins Central dominated with an 18-3 victory. The Lady Storm scored 12 runs in the bottom of the first inning and added 5 more in the second.
Dawson Springs scored three runs in the top of the third, but Hopkins Central’s single run in the bottom half of the inning ended the game due to the 15-run rule.
The second game saw Hopkins Central win 15-0, again invoking the 15-run rule. They scored 5 runs in the first inning, 11 in the second, and 1 in the third.
Emily Ballard’s dominant pitching performance highlighted the second game, as she allowed only one hit and struck out six. Pennie Williams also pitched well in the first game, allowing just one hit.
Hopkins Central’s offense produced 14 hits in the first game, contributing to a total of 23 hits across both contests.
Dawson Springs managed only two hits in the doubleheader.
The Dawson Springs Lady Panthers fall to 0-8 on the season and will face Webster County on Friday night.
The Hopkins Central Lady Storm will improve to 4-17 and will travel to Caldwell County on Thursday night.
