Logan County used a big third inning to get to the lead and then held off the Christian County Colonels to take a 7-5 win Tuesday evening in Russellville. The win ended a two-game losing skid for the Cougars and handing the Colonels their third straight loss.
Christian County took advantage of a pair of walks and a pair of Logan County errors in the top of the second to take a 2-0 lead.
The Cougars answered back in the bottom of the third with a 6-run inning. Logan County used two doubles, a couple of hit batters, and a Christian County error to score the runs.
From there the Colonels spent the rest of the night playing catch up. Thadius Tolliver drew a bases-loaded walk in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 6-3. Layton Creamer then hit into a fielder’s choice to make it 6-4.
Gage Montes hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring Aiden Lewis in the top of the sixth, trimming the Logan County lead to 6-5.
Logan County got the run back in the bottom of the inning thanks to a Christian County error as the Cougars took the two-run win.
Fielding issues continue to plague the Colonels. Four errors Tuesday night led to Logan County scoring two unearned runs in the game.
Gage Montes led Christian County, going 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Five other Colonels had one hit each.
Andrew Fincham took the loss on the mound for Christian County. He went three innings, giving up six runs, five of them earned, on four hits, striking out two and walking one.
Eddie Davis and Sebastian Dazey combined to pitch the final three innings, giving up one unearned run on four hits.
