While the two teams may meet again in the 8th District tournament, Livingston Central will have seen just about enough of Lyon County after the Lyons’ 18-7 win on Thursday. The Lyons improved to 8-4 with their fifth win in a row, including three lopsided decisions over the Cardinals.
After a scoreless first inning, the Lyons pushed four runs across in their second at-bat. Peyton Williams and Hudson Phillips each doubled in runs, and a Livingston Central error allowed the fourth to cross.
Lyon County made it 10-0 with a six-run third, highlighted by back-to-back RBI doubles from Phillips and John Bingham. The Cardinals loaded the bases and drew a pair of walks to get on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth, but the Lyons responded with seven in the bottom of the inning to lead 17-2.
Jayce Gillette and Garrett Edmonds provided RBI singles in a five-run Cardinal fourth before the Lyons tacked on a run to end the game in the fifth.
Payson Oliver earned the win on the mound Lyon County, allowing two unearned runs on two hits with three walks and two strikeouts over three innings. Jacob McDaniels came on to work the final two, giving up five earned runs on five hits with a strikeout and three walks.
Bingham finished with three hits and three RBI, Phillips, Korben Lucas, and Colton Prow each collected two hits and drove in three runs, Williams and Brady Belt both hit safely twice, and Turner Hurst added two RBI.
Drew Hosick was the lone Cardinal with two hits, and Avery Zaim drove in three runs. Zaim also took the loss, surrendering 18 runs, 15 earned, on 15 hits with six walks.
Lyon County will make the long trip to Henderson County on Friday. Livingston Central will receive a visit from Madisonville-North Hopkins.
