Henderson County earned its third win in a row and put the brakes on Lyon County’s five-game surge with a pair of runs in its final at-bat to pull out a 7-6 victory on Friday.

In the first meeting between the teams since a one-run, nine-inning, 2nd Region Colonel win last season, Austin Spears put the Lyons in front with a solo home run in the top of the first.

However, Henderson answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame on RBI singles by Corben Throgmorton and Brody Belt to take the lead.

Hunter Evans’ solo shot made it 3-1 in the second before Lyon County took advantage of two walks, an error, and a hit-by-pitch to push three runs across in the bottom of the third.

Maxton Meadows’ RBI double knotted the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth before Throgmorton drew a bases-loaded walk to give the lead back to the Colonels.

Peyton Williams doubled in a run for Lyon County to tie it up at 5-5 in the fifth, and the Lyons nosed in front when Brady Belt came home on a passed ball in the top of the sixth.

But Henderson again had the answer, tying the game on Evans’ RBI double and pushing the winning run across on Throgmorton’s two-out single in the sixth.

Christian Haygan earned the win on the mound, allowing four runs, two earned, on five hits with two walks and a pair of strikeouts.  Evans finished 3/3 with two RBI, and Throgmorton and Belt each had two hits and drove in two.

Henderson County improved to 5-7 ahead of a visit from Evansville Mater Dei on Monday.

Trace Walker took the loss for the Lyons, giving up two earned runs on three hits with a walk and a strikeout over two and two-thirds innings.  Spears, Williams, and Colton Prow had two hits each for the Lyons.

Lyon County will look to regroup ahead of an All “A” sectional meeting with St. Mary on Monday.  The Lyons have won the last four in the series with the Vikings.
