Outside of a Friday night loss to defending 1st Region champion McCracken County, the Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons are among the hottest teams in the western end of the state. The Lady Maroons won a pair of game Saturday, giving them 9 wins in their last 10 games.
The day began with the Lady Maroons matched up against 5th Region opponent North Hardin. Sadie Kirk pitched a complete game in the circle as Madisonville took a 4-1 win over the Lady Trojans.
The game was knotted up at 1-1 heading into the top of the seventh inning when the Lady Maroons put three runs on the scoreboard to get the win. Sydney Skeen drove in the go-ahead run with a two-out single to center. Nevaeh Lindle followed that up with a double that scored Skeen and Mackenzie Stoltz to extend the lead to 4-1.
Sadie Kirk then got North Hardin to go down in order in the bottom of the seventh to close out the game. She ended the game giving up four hits, striking out nine, and walking four.
Seven different Lady Maroons had a hit in the game. Nevaeh Lindle drove in two runs to lead the Madisonville offensive attack.
The Lady Maroons finished their day Saturday by rolling past Ohio County 12-2 in six innings. Leading 3-1, Madisonville-North Hopkins broke the game open with 8 runs in the top of the third inning.
The Lady Maroons overcame four errors in the field by ripping off 16 hits on their way to the 10-run win.
Mackenzie Stoltz ended up 3-5 with 3 RBIs and two runs scored. Kylie Watkins was 3-4 with a double and two runs scored. Sydney Skeen was 2-3 with a home run, two RBIs, and three runs scored. Maggie Killough went 2-4 with 3 RBIs and a run scored. Sophie Frailley was 3-4 with 2 doubles, an RBI, and a run scored.
Mackenzie Stoltz went six innings in the circle, giving up two runs, neither of them earned, on three hits, striking out 11 and walking two.
