Trigg County enjoyed a record-setting day with a pair of wins at Union County on Saturday.

The Lady Wildcats smashed a school record six home runs in a 13-4 win over Hamilton County, Illinois, in the opener. Their 14-10 win over Union County in the second game pushed their season record to 16-6, marking the best start in program history and marking the first time Trigg has been 10 games over .500 at any point in the season since switching to fast pitch in 1995. Trigg was 20-9 in its final season of slow-pitch softball in 1994.

Kady Fuller, who set the Trigg County career home run record earlier this year, hit three home runs in the opener, the first Lady Wildcat to do so. Her Saturday haul gives her nine for the season – also a new school mark.

The sophomore belted a solo homer in the fourth inning, a two-run shot in the fifth inning, and another solo shot in the seventh.

Tember Oliver smacked her first two homers of the season – a two-run shot in the third and a solo homer in the seventh inning.

Livia Breckel also got in on the home run fun, with her fourth home run of the year a two-run shot to center.

Breckel, Fuller, and Oliver each had four hits as the Lady Wildcat rapped out 18 for the game. Emmalee Futrell and Jayden Visingardi each doubled, and MaKenna Hendricks drove in three runs.

Oliver improved to 14-3 in the circle with an 11-strikeout afternoon. She scattered seven hits with none of the four runs allowed earned.

In the second game of the afternoon, Trigg County sent three more balls over the fence in a 14-10 win over Union County.

Oliver smacked two more and was joined by Lily Eagleson, whose second-inning homer staked Trigg to a 3-1 lead. Both of Oliver’s homers were solo shots – in the fourth and sixth innings.

MaKenna Hendricks had a two-run single, and Veyda Grinols added an RBI single as part of a seven-run third inning.

Grinols was 5-for-5 against Union County and is batting .600 (9 for 15) in her last four games. She had two doubles and a triple.

Union County got two runs back on a two-run double by Jaylen Tackett in the third inning.

The Bravettes mounted a surge in the home half of the sixth inning with six runs, highlighted by a Tackett grand slam that got Union to within 13-10. Tackett finished with six RBI, and Miley Mosley added three hits for the Bravettes.

Oliver came in to get the final four outs for her second save of the season. Eagleson notched her first win of the season in the circle, allowing seven hits in 5.1 innings.

Oliver had four hits and two RBI, and Maddie Smith, Eagleson, and Fuller each had two hits.

With nine home runs on Saturday, Trigg County has 22 for the season, eviscerating the old single-season record. The Lady Wildcats also raised their season batting average from .260 to .288 with their 38-hit afternoon.

Trigg County will play at Lyon County on Monday and make the trip to defending region champion Henderson County on Tuesday.

Union County, which beat Hamilton County 9-1 earlier in the day, is 10-10 and will play at Hopkins County Central on Monday.
