This one felt like it was over not long after it started. The Lyon County Lyons controlled their All A sectional round game against St. Mary from the opening moments on the way to a 9-1 win Monday evening in Paducah. The win moves the Lyons into the All A quarterfinals Saturday evening against Walton-Verona at Daviess County High School.

Four Lyon County pitchers combined to hold the Vikings to just three hits for the game. Meanwhile, the Lyons put up nine runs in a two-inning span to put the game away.

Peyton Williams got the start on the mound for the Lyons and struck out the first six batters he faced. And that gave the Lyon County offense just enough time to find its stride.

Turner Hurst, who had a big night for the Lyons, led off the top of the third with a double. After a walk and a ground out, Korben Lucas drove in two runs with a single to center. Lucas later scored in the inning to give the Lyons a 3-0 lead.

After getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the third, Lyon County then blew the game wide open in the top of the fourth. The Lyons put up three runs quickly in the inning after the first four batters reached safely, capped off by a two-run double from Turner Hurst. The big inning was capped off by a blast to centerfield by Austin Spears that dinged the corner of the scoreboard on its way out as the Lyons ran out to a 9-0 lead.

The Vikings scored their only run of the game in the bottom half of the fourth, but that would be all they would get the rest of the way.

Trace Walker and Brady Belt held St. Mary to just two hits for the rest of the game as the Lyons set their sights on a trip to the Boro this weekend.

Turner Hurst was 3-3 with two doubles, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Korben Lucas finished 3-3 with a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Austin Spears was 1-4 with the 3-run homer.

Peyton Williams picked up the win for the Lyons, going three innings, giving up no runs on no hits, striking out seven and walking two.

Lyon County improves to 9-5 with the win and will now head to Owensboro to take on Walton-Verona in the All A Classic quarterfinals. That game is set for Saturday evening at 5:30 at Daviess County High School.
