Hopkinsville doubled up Marshall County in hits on Monday but paid for six errors in a 3-1 loss that ended the Tigers’ four-game win streak.

After two scoreless innings, Marshall County broke through against Hoptown’s Andrew Mayes thanks to a Tiger error and a sacrifice bunt by Kash Chiles for a 2-0 lead.

Hopkinsville used a walk and a Mayes’ single to set the table for Layton Lindsey’s RBI single in the fourth.  The Tigers then loaded the bases with one out in the top of the seventh against Marshall relief pitcher Kannon Dunn, but a strikeout and a fielder’s choice ended the game.

Mayes allowed two unearned runs on two hits with three walks and four strikeouts over four innings to take the loss.  Gavin Powell worked the last three frames, giving up an unearned run on a single hit with no walks and four strikeouts.

Kaden Merrick earned the win to help the Marshals improve to 9-4.  He surrendered one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts and a pair of walks.

Hopkinsville slipped to 9-7 ahead of a big 8th-District matchup with Christian County on Friday.
