Union County Hands Hopkins County Central 9th Straight Loss

Union County jumped out to an 8-0 lead over the Hopkins County Central Storm Monday night and that was enough to carry the Braves to a 9-4 win in Mortons Gap. With the win, the Braves handed the Storm their 9th straight loss.

Union County scored a run in the top of the first and then another in the top of the second to go up 2-0.

The Braves broke things open with a 4-run inning in the top of the third. Two Hopkins County Central errors contributed to the big innign for Union County.

The Braves added two more runs in the top of the fifth to go up 8-0.

Central got on the board in the bottom of the inning when Neilan Bruce tripled and then scored on a ground out to make it 8-1. In the bottom of the sixth, Daniel Brady drove in a pair of runs with a single to left and the Storm added a third run on a Brave error to cut the lead to 8-4.

But that would end the comeback threat for the Storm. Union County would then add an insurance run in the top of the seventh to get to the final score.

Daniel Brady led Hopkins County Central, going 1-3 with 2 RBIs. Five other Storm batters had one hit each in the game.

8th grader Sawyer Allen was the starter for the Storm on the mound and was charged with the loss. He went five innings, giving up 8 runs, only four of them earned, on 8 hits. He struck out three and walked five.
