Alyssa Meyer has worked hard to achieve the harmony of being a servant leader and being happy with herself through her personal and interpersonal qualities.
The Hopkinsville High School senior just wrapped up her fifth season on the HHS cheer squad, which saw them qualify for UCA Nationals for a second straight season.
In achieving that harmony, Alyssa knows balance and commitment to growth are two qualities she has had to rely on.
“It’s hard, and you have to time manage yourself with games and practices. It’s just a lot, but it’s worth it,” she said.
Alyssa has been able to pull it off while carrying a 4.5 GPA, which has her in the top three of the Hopkinsville High Class of 2025.
Away from cheerleading, she is involved in the Key Club, HOSA, National Honor Society, and the Beta Club.
However, it was her involvement with the Hopkinsville-Christian County Youth Leadership Class that allowed her to experience humility and servant leadership through volunteer work with the mentoring group Men2Be.
“It was just so heartwarming. Men2Be helps men who don’t necessarily have a good father figure or just need help, and they help tutor them. They help teach them skills for life, and it really does teach you how you can really help out,” she said.
Alyssa also participated in the Distinguished Young Women of Christian County last year – something that helped build her confidence and tune out the negativity.
“I’m proud of the way I have persevered through things and use my sense of happiness that I use to keep going.”
Alyssa is still firming up her college plans, but would like to attend medical school and go into the dermatology field.
