We always like to try new places during our visit to the Great Smoky Mountains and today we had lunch at The Abbey in Townsend.
It’s obviously located in a former church but is a great casual type restaurant. You walk in, place your order at the bar, find a seat and wait for the food to be brought to your table.
I had delicious chicken tacos with a side of tater tots that came with the best honey hot sauce. My wife had chicken salad and chips. We did not try any of the craft beers but those around us who did seemed impressed.
I already know next time I will get the loaded tater tots and the pizza looked amazing.
You can eat outside by the river or in a room with long tables that has church pews for seats. We ate in the recently added dining area with TV’s that had plenty of sports that I liked. Obviously the recently renovated and expanded kitchen works well based on how quickly the food arrives.
Friendly staff, great food, casual atmosphere and reasonable prices — all things I really, really l liked. The Abbey also often has live music and in cooler weather there is a fireplace I know has to be great.
There were guests of all ages, including four folks from Maine, dining while we did.
