
A nine-run fifth inning turned a tight game into an 11-1 victory for Calloway County over Trigg County on Saturday.
The homestanding Lakers (9-7) sent 10 men to the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game early on the 10-run mercy rule.
Trigg (7-8) tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Cannon Scott.
But the Lakers went back in front 2-1 with an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth, then put together the big fifth inning.
Conner Lockhart was 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles and a run batted in for Calloway. Nick Cantrell wnt 2-for-3 and drove in two. Cole Lockhart was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Zach Akin was the winning pitcher for the Lakers in relief of Noah Stallons. The two hurlers gave up just one earned run on three base hits while striking out nine.
Trigg got singles from Bentley Reynolds, Aaden Allen and Scott.
The Wildcats will go on the road again on Monday when they visit Fort Campbell.
