For UHA’s Hayden Hunt, it was a pretty good effort considering the day began not knowing whether he would be able to go at all Monday night. Actually, it was much better than a pretty good effort.
Hunt pitched a complete game no-hitter as the Blazers knocked off Hopkinsville 5-0 for their seventh straight win and second this season over the Tigers.
Hunt injured his ankle Friday night in UHA’s win over South Warren and there was significant doubt over the weekend that he would be able to go against Hopkinsville Monday night. But, Hunt got clearance to play Monday morning, and you would have never guessed by his effort on the mound that there had even been any doubt that he would be able to go.
Hunt struck out 12 and walked only two over his seven innings as he was in control from the beginning and looked as strong as ever when he struck out the Tigers in order to end the game in the top of the seventh.
The Blazers got more runs than Hunt needed with a four-run second inning. UHA then used a Hopkinsville error to add its other run in the bottom of the third.
Aiden Jones led the Blazer attack at the plate, going 2-3 with two runs scored. Josh Pace was 1-3 with an RBI and a run scored. On the night he was recognized as the only Blazer senior for Senior Night, Eli Finch was 1-2 with an RBI.
Gavin Powell went six innings for Hopkinsville in the loss, giving up five runs, four of them earned, on five hits, striking out three and walking two.
