Union County broke open a close game with eight runs in its final two at-bats to hand Lyon County a 9-2 loss on Monday in Morganfield.
The Bravettes used six hits and two walks in the sixth inning to plate six runs. Audrey Staley doubled home three runs with the big hit of the inning and scored on a single by Aspen Davis. Sydney Thomas and Miley Mendoza would also add RBI singles.
Lyon County took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning when Audrey Akridge smacked a double that scored Emma Brasher. Akridge then scored on a single by Courtney Collins.
Davis tied the game for Union with an RBI double in the home half of the fifth, and Thomas gave them the lead with a sacrifice fly.
Staley, Davis, and Thomas had two hits for Union County, with Stakey knocking in three runs. Davis and Thomas each drove in two runs.
Brasher led Lyon County with a pair of hits, with Akridge and Jenna Coursey adding doubles.
Peyton Jenkins improved to 6-2 with the win in the circle, allowing five hits and two earned runs. She didn’t walk a batter and didn’t strike out a batter.
Lyon County (7-9) will play at Crittenden County on Thursday with the district’s No. 3 seed in play.
Union County (13-10) will play at the newly crowned All A Classic State Champion, Livingston Central, on Tuesday.
