Almost everything went right for Georgia Amoore not only during her one year at Kentucky but during her previous time at Virginia Tech.
However, the All-American point guard and recent sixth pick in the WNBA Draft by the Washington Mystics, suffered a serious knee injury at practice Tuesday and likely will miss her entire rookie season.
The Mystics said it was a “right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury” suffered by Amoore during only the third day of practice in preparation for the upcoming season. The Mystics have not offered a timeline for her recovery and return to the court.
“Amoore and the team will examine treatment and rehabilitation options and provide an update as appropriate,” the Mystics noted in a press release.
Amoore averaged 19.6 points and 6.9 assists in 36.7 minutes per game at Kentucky last season. She was a consensus All-American and led UK to its first NCAA Tournament win since 2021.
Amoore joined the Mystics along with the Nos. 3 and 4 overall picks, respectively, Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen. Amoore had a chance to earn the starting point guard spot.
