
Don’t look now but the Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons just might be the hottest softball team in the 2nd Region. The Lady Maroons scored the last five runs of the game Thursday night in a 7-3 win over Union County. The win gives the Lady Maroons 10 straight.
Sadie Kirk scored in the bottom of the first to put the Lady Maroons in the early lead 1-0. Katelyn Rodgers led off the bottom of the second with a shot over the centerfield fence to push the lead out to 2-0. It was Rodgers’ first home run of the season.
The Bravettes came back with two runs in the top of the third to tie the game and then a run in the top of the fourth to take the lead on an RBI single from Audrey Staley.
The Union County lead was short-lived as Madisonville came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to go back on top. Mackenzie Stoltz’s two-run blast, her 14th home run of the season, was the hit that put the Lady Maroons back in front for good.
Madisonville put the game away with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Sydney Skeen and Sophie Frailley had RBI hits in the inning for the Lady Maroons.
For the night, Sadie Kirk and Katelyn Rogers led the way for the Lady Maroons with two hits each. Mackenzie Stoltz and Sydney Skeen drove in a pair of runs each.
In the circle, Sadie Kirk went the full seven innings, giving up three runs on seven hits, striking out 10 and walking one. She is now 10-3 for the year.
