Caldwell County’s all-time leading scorer on the basketball court is the new boys’ basketball head coach at Dawson Springs High School.
Dawson Springs announced Wednesday that Matt Fraliex is the Panthers’ new coach.
Fraliex replaces Mickey Blue, who stepped down prior to the regional tournament this past season.
“I am incredibly honored and blessed to be named the next head boys’ basketball coach at Dawson Springs High School,” Fraliex said in a statement released by the school. “I want to express my sincere gratitude to Elementary Principal Jennifer Ward, High School Principal Todd Marshall and Athletic Director Elizabeth Robinson for their confidence in me to help grow the boys basketball program, not only into a competitive team but also into one that shapes strong, respectful young men.
“Our players will be held to high standards that extend beyond the basketball court, guided by the Five Pillars: Integrity, Unity, Passion, Diligence and Appreciation.
“I’m excited to get into the gym and start working with these young athletes, and I’m equally excited to connect with members of the Dawson Springs community. My family and I feel truly blessed to begin this new chapter here.
“Go Panthers!”
Fraliex spent the last two years as head coach at Crittenden County, but faced a rebuilding situation with the Rockets.
Crittenden went 3-25 in his first season, but endured a winless 0-26 campaign this year.
Fraliex was a standout player at Caldwell County and is still the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,941 points. He was on the last district championship team at Caldwell in 2007. He was a finalist for Kentucky
Mr. Basketball and played in the Kentucky-Indiana All-Star Series.
Fraliex went on to play college basketball at Murray State University for two seasons, before transferring to Mid-Continent University.
In 2021, Fraliex was named girls’ basketball head coach at Todd County Central. He went 8-16 in one season with the Lady Rebels before returning to Caldwell as an assistant coach on the boys’ team.
Meanwhile, Dawson Springs went 17-16 and qualified for the 2nd Region tournament before falling to Lyon County in the first round.
However, the Panthers graduated their top two scorers from this past season.

Good luck with that. His daddy will want to be his assistant coach like he was at Crittenden.
