It was about as bad a start as could have been imagined for the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons as they traveled to Hopkinsville Thursday night to take on the Tigers in a 2nd Region matchup. In fact, if the Maroons would have had a mulligan in their pocket, they for sure would have used it.

Hopkinsville scored all seven of its runs in the bottom of the first as the Tigers claimed a 7-0 win over the Maroons. The win was the 6th straight in the series for Hopkinsville.

As for the start for the Maroons, of the Tigers’ seven runs in the first inning, only two of them were earned as Madisonville was charged with two errors, two walks, a hit batter, and a passed ball in the inning. It was a start from which the Maroons could never recover.

After the first inning, Madisonville starter Brantley Harris got on a roll on the mound, but the damage had already been done. Harris gave up just two hits after the first inning. The problem was that Hopkinsville’s Gavin Mitchell was equally good on the other side, and he did not have a similar inning to overcome.

Mitchell went all seven innings for Hopkinsville. He gave up just three hits, struck out six, and walked two in picking up the win for the Tigers.

For the game, Hopkinsville outhit the Maroons six to three.

Dylan Sweeney and Jayden Kellum had two hits each to lead the Tigers. Jackson Guier was credited with two RBIs for the night.

Matthew Yates, Lane Faulk, and Brantley Harris had one hit each to lead Madisonville-North Hopkins.
