Bowling Green Rally Downs Lady Rebels 10-7

A five-run fifth inning put Todd County Central on course for a victory at Bowling Green on Friday, but the Purples had different ideas with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull off a 10-7 win.

Payton Steward’s RBI double gave the host Purples a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the second, and Bowling Green added a pair of runs in the fourth to add to the cushion.

Dakotah Gammon’s RBI triple pulled the Lady Rebels to within 6-4, and runs on Maliyah Merriweather’s double, a triple by Isabelle Hightower, and a run-scoring double from Rylann Griggs gave Todd Central a 7-6 advantage after five.

Bowling Green tied the game on JaNyah Perkins’ RBI single in the sixth, and Amparo DeJesus drove in two with a double, followed by Emma Lindsey’s RBI single, for the final three-run margin.

Olivia Weikel took the loss in the circle, allowing 10 runs, eight earned, on 11 hits with three walks and six strikeouts.  Hightower and Naomi Welborn each had two hits for the Lady Rebels, and Gammon drove in two runs.

Bowling Green’s Hadley Morrison earned the win after working an inning and two-thirds.  She gave up two earned runs on three hits with a pair of strikeouts.

The Lady Rebels slipped to 9-11 ahead of a district matchup with visiting Russellville on Tuesday.

Bowling Green won its second straight to improve to 14-10.
