The Christian County Colonels took a big step Friday evening toward the top seed in the 8th District baseball tournament. Led by a strong performance on the mound from Eddie Davis, the Colonels took the lead early and rolled on to an 8-0 win over University Heights.
With the win, the Colonels stay at one loss in district play while handing the Blazers their second loss, both coming at the hands of the Colonels.
Davis had a couple of bumps in the road for the night, including a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh, but otherwise was in complete control from the moment he took the hill in the first inning.
He ended the night giving up just three hits, striking out ten and walking two.
Christian County took the momentum in the top of the first inning. Blake Boehman drove in a run with a two-out single. Later in the inning, Preston Stokes was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in Boehman making it a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the second, the Blazers misplayed a fly ball off the bat of Blake Boehman allowing Jonathan Lewis to score, moving the lead out to 3-0.
The score would stay that way until the top of the sixth when the Colonels blew the game open with a four-run inning. The big hit in the inning was a bases-clearing double from Gage Montes that pushed the lead to 7-0.
Christian County added one final run in the top of the seventh when Layton Creamer sent one over the fence in left.
Creamer and Thadius Tolliver were both 2-4 for Christian County. Gage Montes ended up 1-4 with 3 RBIs. Jonathan Lewis was 3-3 with two runs scored.
Ryan Luckey, Cadence Gibson, and Eli Finch all had one hit each for the Blazers.
Jaiden Miles got the start for UHA and was tagged with the loss after going three innings.
