
Not quite a split of the day Saturday for the Lyon County Lady Lyons as they were in Owensboro for the Softball Catholic Classic hosted by Owensboro Catholic. The Lady Lyons dropped a tough battle with Central Hardin and then played to a draw with the host Lady Aces of Owensboro Catholic.
In the opening game of the day, Central Hardin took advantage of Lyon County miscues in the bottom of the fourth inning to score three runs and come back to take an 8-6 win in a six-inning time-limit win over the Lady Lyons at Jack Fisher Park.
The Lady Lyons had scored three runs of their own in the top half of the inning to pull in front 6-5. Courtney Collins’ two-run triple was the big hit in the inning.
Both teams had scored a run in the first. The Lady Lyons scored a run in the top of the second but saw the Lady Bruins score three in the bottom to go up 4-2.
Lyon County trimmed the lead to 4-3 in the top of the third on an RBI double from Ava Prow.
Courtney Collins led the Lady Lyons in the game, going 2-4 with a triple, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Four other Lady Lyons had one hit each.
Ava Prow got the start in the circle and went four innings for Lyon County. She gave up 8 runs, only 4 earned, on seven hits, striking out two and walking three.
Against Owensboro Catholic, the Lady Lyons broke a 1-1 tie with a 3-run top of the sixth inning only to see the Lady Aces roar back to tie the game with three of their own in the bottom half of the inning as the game ended in a 6-6 tie due to time limit.
Lyon County took advantage of two OCath errors in the top of the third to go in front 1-0.
The Lady Aces tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth on a double to left.
In the top of the 6th, Courtney Collins led off the inning with a triple and then scored on a sac bunt from Lilly Perry to make it 2-1. Ava Prow’s RBI single made it 3-1 and then a Catholic error extended it to 4-1.
Three Lyon County errors, along with a hit batter opened the door for the Lady Aces to score three runs in the bottom of the sixth and tie the game with one out. The Lady Lyons were then able to work their way out of the inning to escape with the tie.
Ava Prow finished the game 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored. The other Lady Lyons had one hit each as Lyon County outhit the Lady Aces 5 to 4 for the game.
Lilly Perry went all six innings in the circle, giving up four runs, only one of them earned, on four hits, striking out six and walking one.
