
Hopkinsville rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie Marshall County 2-2 on Saturday.
However, the homestanding Marshals scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out a 4-2.
The contest was part of the Preston Cope Wood Bat Classic in Draffenville.
Gavin Powell pitched well for Hoptown, but gave up a pair of unearned runs in the second inning as Marshall grabbed the lead early.
But the Tigers got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth on an RBI groundout by Layton Lindsey.
Hopkinsville had loaded the bases with no outs, but could only score the one run to cut the gap to 2-1.
Hoptown (11-9) put together a two-out rally in the sixth to tie the game. Jayden Kellum and Andrew Mayes each singled, with Kellum later scoring on a wild pitch to knot the score.
Marshall (12-6) got some two-out hits of its own in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead.
Thomas Bagby doubled home a run to put the Marshals up 3-2. Maddox Cope then singled home Bagby to make it a 4-2 game.
Kaden Merrick was the winning pitcher for the Marshals. He went the first six innings, allowing one earned run on five base hits.
Sullivan Shadowen pitched the seventh to earn the save. He surrendered just a single.
Powell suffered the loss for Hopkinsville. He gave up two earned runs on six base hits while striking out five.
Cope was 2-for-3 at the plate and knocked in two for Marshall. Kash Chiles was 2-for-3 with a double and scored twice.
Kellum and Mayes were each 2-for-3 for the Tigers.
Hoptown returns to action on Monday with a home game against McCracken County.
