Former Lyon County baseball standout Brody Williams has earned Mid-American Conference Player of the Week honors, the league office announced on Monday.
Williams, a junior catcher at Kent State, swung a hot bat last week in the middle of the Golden Flashes batting order and propelled them to a 3-1 record on the week.
The Flashes’ backstop recorded multiple hits in all four games for Kent State last week. The Eddyville native started the week out with a bang, going 2-for-3 in Tuesday’s win over Pitt-Johnstown, recording two hits, one home run, three RBIs and two runs scored.
The Kent State backstop got off to a hot start over the weekend in Muncie, Indiana, going 3-for 5 in the series opener against Ball State with two home runs, five runs batted in and two runs scored.
Williams recorded a pair of hits on Saturday and another two in Sunday’s rubber match. In the series finale, Williams roped a massive RBI double to left field to give the Flashes an insurance run en route to a big series win on the road.
Kent State will host Western Michigan for three games this weekend.
