Hancock County ‘Stings’ Hopkins County Central 7-4

The Hancock County Hornets were efficient with their offense Tuesday night. The Hornets had just three hits but managed to put up seven runs as they took down the Hopkins County Central Storm 7-4 in Mortons Gap.

Hopkins Central took the early lead in the game when Tristan Schmaltz drove in a run in the bottom of the first with a single to left to make it 1-0.

The Hornets then scored seven straight runs to grab the lead for good, two in the second, three in the third, and one each in the top of the fourth and the top of the 5th.

The Storm rallied to cut into the lead in the bottom half of the fifth. Brody Smith drove in a run with a double to right. Central added two more runs on two passed balls in the same at bat. But that would be as close as the Storm could get.

Hopkins County Central outhit Hancock County 5 to 3 for the game. Neilan Bruce led the Storm with two hits. Brody Smith, Gaige Brasher, and Tristan Schmaltz added one hit each.

Gaige Brasher got the start on the mound for Hopkins County Central. He went four innings, giving up six runs, four of them earned, on just two hits. He struck out five and walked seven.
