The Webster County Lady Trojans had just two hits in their game against the Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons Tuesday evening in Dixon. However, one of them was a big one that came at just the right time.
Chloe Papineau’s hit a walk-off two-run shot to right in the bottom the 7th inning to give the Lady Trojans a big 3-1 win over the Lady Maroons. Papineau’s blast came after Kennedy Warren was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.
While it was her home run that won the game, it was Chloe Papineau’s performance in the circle that was the story of the game. She limited the Lady Maroons to just one run on five hits, shutting Madisonville out until the top of the sixth inning. Papineau also had seven strikeouts for the night.
The upset win for the Lady Trojans overshadowed a big night in the circle for Mackenzie Stoltz, who struck out 16 batters for the Lady Maroons.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 5th when Kennedy Warren stole home with the bases loaded to make it 1-0 Webster County.
Madisonville pulled even in the top of the sixth. Maggie Killough hit a one-out double to center and then later scored on a ground out to make it 1-1.
Sadie Kirk, Mackenzie Stoltz, Maggie Killough, Katelyn Rodgers, and Kylie Watkins, all had one hit each for the Lady Maroons.
