Montgomery “Gummy” Johnston of Dawson Springs High School has announced that he will play college basketball at Asbury University in Wilmore.
Johnston made the announcement Tuesday on social media.
Johnston is the all-time leading scorer in Dawson Springs boys’ basketball history — a history that dates back to the 1920s.
Johnston finished his high school career with 2,019 points.
He averaged 22.6 points a game this past season for the Panthers, who compiled a 17-16 worksheet.
Johnston poured in 43 points in a 7th District semifinal win over Caldwell County that put Dawson in the 2nd Region tournament field for the first time since 2017. The Panthers fell to Lyon County in the first round of the regional.
Johnston joins an Asbury Eagles program that will be looking for a bounce-back season after going 9-18 in 2024-25.
