Tight end commit Elijah Brown with UK tight ends coach Vince Marrow. (X Photo)
He spent two years at Florida Atlantic after transferring from Alabama after only one season but tight end Elijah Brown played in only 11 games in two years for FAU with just one catch for 22 yards.
So why did Kentucky want to add the 6-5,260-pound tight end to its 2025 roster?
He does have two years of eligibility remaining and he was a four-star recruit coming out of high school in Dayton, Ohio, when he was heavily recruited by UK tight ends coach Vince Marrow. He was ranked as the nation’s No. 8 tight end and a top 250 prospect.
Brown, who had committed to Central Florida before switching to UK, has size that UK likes in tight ends and did play 132 snaps over seven games last season. Kentucky felt it needed tight end depth for next season even after adding Henry Boyer of Illinois through the transfer portal in December.
Kentucky lost tight ends Khamari Anderson (a potential rising star), veteran Jordan Dingle and seldom-used Tanner Lemaster through the transfer portal. It has signed freshman Mikkel Skinner who will be on campus in June and returns Josh Kattus and Willie Rodriguez.
Marrow and head coach Mark Stoops obviously liked Brown coming out of high school and so did Alabama. Marrow never closes doors and maybe knowing UK’s need for depth at tight end will help rejuvenate Brown’s career.

Brown is a big tight end who loves to block. He’s great at run blocking is why the recruited him. They want as many big bodies blocking as possible which tells me they will run the football about 40 times a game. At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if 4 backs get 10 carries a piece. Between the first string and the fourth string there isn’t much drop off. I wouldn’t even know what string which guy is. You have Dowdell who I thought would be the lead back because of his power. Then we have Wilcox who is lightning in a bottle. Patterson fits both bills a little power and a little speed, and the new transfer is very shifty with speed. Any one of these guys could start.
