
Christian County sophomore Jazzy Tejada hit three home runs … in three straight at-bats … in three straight innings.
The Lady Colonels pounded out 16 base hits while claiming a 15-5 win in five innings at Caldwell County Thursday night.
Tejada clubbed a solo homer in the third inning, pounded another solo shot in the fourth and blasted a two-run homer in the fifth inning.
She finished the night 3-for-4 with four runs batted in and three runs scored.
Tejada and Katie Smith had back-to-back long balls in the third as the Lady Colonels scored five times in that frame to build an 8-2.
Christian (17-12) jumped on Caldwell for three runs in the top of the first inning when Alondra Rodriguez dobuled home two runs and Smith followed with an RBI double.
Caldwell (10-12) seemed to grab the momentum in the bottom of the second when Carlee Palm connected for a home run off the scoreboard in left field. That cut the gap to 3-2.
But the Lady Colonels responded with the big third inning to regain control.
Christian added two more runs in the fourth to go up 10-2. A five-run fifth extended the margin to 15-3.
Caldwell got a two-run homer from Adley Lewis in the bottom of the fifth, but couldn’t avoid falling by the mercy rule.
Jayda Turner finished 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs for Christian. Smith was 2-for-3 and knocked in two. Avery Adcock went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Rodriguez was 2-for-4 and drove in two.
Jordan Turner picked up the win in the pitching circle for Christian. She surrendered five runs on nine hits.
For Caldwell, Palm finished 2-for-2 with three runs batted.
The Lady Tigers had taken the three previous matchups with Christian.
The Lady Colonels still lead the all-time series 20-13.
Christian is scheduled to play again on Tuesday when it hosts Calloway County.
Caldwell will be in action on Friday at Webster County.
