The Christian County Colonels went into Friday night’s home district showdown against Hopkinsville knowing that a win would give them the top seed in the 8th District baseball tournament while a loss would put the decision in the hands of the district tiebreaker system. The Colonels elected to just settle the matter themselves.

Christian County got a combined 5-hit shutout from Eddie Davis and Nolan Young as the Colonels rolled to a quick 6-0 win over the Tigers. The game took right at an hour and a half to complete.

Davis got the start on the mound for Christian County and went two innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three. However, Davis developed what appeared to be tightness in his side and had to exit the game after the second inning.

Nolan Young came in for the top of the third and picked up where Davis left off. Young pitched the final five innings, giving up four hits, striking out three and walking two.

Christian County grabbed the early momentum with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Blake Boehman and Layton Creamer had RBI singles in the inning, with Creamer’s hit driving in two runs.

Sebastian Dazey drove in a run with a single to left in the bottom of the second to extend the Christian County lead to 4-0. Dazey drove in another run with a double to left in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-0.

The Colonels added one more insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Aiden Lewis grounded into a fielder’s choice, scoring Thadius Toliver and pushing the margin to 6-0.

Aiden Lewis, Sebastian Dazey, and Layton Creamer, all had two hits for Christian County. Creamer and Dazey also drove in a pair of runs each.

Gavin Powell led Hopkinsville, going 2-3 with a double. Chase Fort, Layton Lindsey, and Griffen Meacham had one hit each.

Powell went the distance on the mound for Hopkinsville, giving up six runs, five of them earned, on nine hits, striking out three and walking none.

With the win, Christian County takes the top seed for the 8th District tournament. University Heights will be the #2 seed and Hopkinsville will be the #3. The Colonels will face the winner of the game between Fort Campbell and Heritage Christian. Hopkinsville and UHA will play in a loser go home game in the other semifinal.
