Big Day for Brylee Butts Leads Caldwell Past Oldham and Pulaski

A big day from Brylee Butts led the Caldwell County Tigers to a pair of Saturday wins at the annual Best of the West. Thirteen was a lucky number for the Lady Tigers as they tallied 13 runs in wins over Oldham County and Pulaski County.

Brylee Butts drove in seven runs and the Lady Tigers used 8 walks from Oldham County pitching as Caldwell County began their day Saturday with a 13-3 five-inning win over the Lady Colonels.

Oldham County took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a solo homer from Jozie Lashley.

Caldwell County got a three-run homer from Butts in the bottom of the third to go up 3-1.

The pitching for Oldham County then had a full-fledged meltdown in the bottom of the fourth. Caldwell County used five walks and two hit batters to score five runs in the inning. All five runs scored as the result of either a bases-loaded walk or hit batter.

Oldham County trimmed the lead to 8-3 in the top of the fifth.

The Lady Tigers then slammed the door on the game with five runs to get to the 10-run rule in the bottom half of the inning. After two walks and a hit batter, Brylee Butts blasted her second home run of the game, this one a grand slam to make it 12-3. The Lady Tigers then reloaded the bases and scored the walk-off game-ending run on a hit batter.

Brylee Butts finished 2-3 with two home runs, seven RBIs, and three runs scored. Harper Holeman was 2-4 with a run scored.

Alexis Wood went five innings in the circle, giving up three runs on eight hits, striking out none and walking one.

The Caldwell County offense kept rolling on in the second game of the day. The Lady Tigers racked up 16 hits on the way to a 13-7 win over Pulaski County.

Trailing 6-4 going into the top of the sixth, the Lady Tigers exploded for nine runs to take the lead. Caldwell County had 8 hits in the inning to spark the big rally.

Caldwell County got things off to a good start with two runs in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead.

Pulaski County rebounded with a run in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead in half at 2-1.

The Lady Tigers used a steal of home and a Lady Maroon error to push the lead out to 4-1 in the top of the 5th. Pulaski County came right back to score five runs in the bottom of the inning to go on top 6-4.

Brylee Butts kept her big day going with a 3-5 performance at the plate that included two doubles, two RBIs, and three runs scored. Harper Holeman was 3-4 with a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Tink Clark ended up 3-5 with a triple, two RBIs, and a run scored. Alexis Wood drove in three runs for the Lady Tigers.

Wood went the distance in the circle, giving up seven runs, just four of them earned, on 12 hits, striking out none and walking two.

The two wins improve Caldwell County to 12-13. The Lady Tigers are set to host Muhlenberg County Monday evening.
