Evan Lear is giving the Madisonville Maroons a pitching boost at the right time of the season.

The junior right-hander limited Trigg County to five hits as Madisonville completed the season sweep of the Wildcats with a 6-1 win on Friday in Cadiz.

Lear pitched a complete game, striking out seven and scattering five hits. He also got help from his defense, who turned a pair of double plays behind him, including one in the sixth inning that squelched a Wildcat rally.

Slaton Carter singled home Chase Hampton, who had doubled, for Trigg’s only run of the game. However, Jon Humphries ripped a line drive up the middle that was snagged by Matthew Yates, who doubled off the Trigg County runner at first base.

Lear is 4-0 over his last four starts with 28 strikeouts in 24 innings with a 1.16 ERA.

Madisonville got on the board in the second inning when Lear singled, advanced to second on a balk, and went to third on a groundout. He scored on a single by Brayden Lynch.

In the third inning, the Maroons tacked on a pair of runs when Yates singled and Brantley Harris doubled. They scored on a balk and a groundout.

Ryder Sandidge added an RBI single in the sixth inning to push the lead to 4-0.

Alex Richards stole home in the seventh inning, and Jerin Bottoms scored on a wild pitch as the Maroons pushed their lead to 6-1.

Madisonville was aggressive on the bases, swiping six bases with Sandidge totaling three and Richards two.

Sandidge and Yates each had two hits for the Maroons, who have won three straight games and improved to 16-11. After losing four of its past five meetings with Trigg County entering the season, Madisonville won both matchups in 2025 by a combined score of 16-1.

Bentley Reynolds had a pair of hits for Trigg County, which fell to 10-9. The Wildcats will play at Lyon County on Saturday.
