While Kira Curlin was a latecomer to cheerleading, it’s now a part of both her current and future life.

The Trigg County senior signed to continue her cheer and academic careers at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro on Friday.

Kira said Trigg County’s trip to UCA Nationals as a junior is when she decided to continue cheering after high school.

”I found out it’s something I actually love and find peace in and keeps me rounded because it’s a very demanding sport,” she said.

KWC Coach Amanda Higgs came to Friday’s signing and said she expects Kira to be a good fit for the squad.

“We were super excited to have Kira on campus with us. She’s going to be a great, valuable asset to me. She’s going to do well, and she’s bringing some great skills as we build our program. I’m so super excited for her.”

Kira said she plans to study psychology at KWC.
