Muhlenberg County’s Talan Cartwright was a walk away from perfect on Monday to help the host Mustangs blank Todd County Central 15-0 in four innings.
Cartwright struck out seven to earn his eighth win on the mound. The Mustangs won for the seventh time in their last eight outings to improve to 17-7.
Dalton Brigance provided all the offense Muhlenberg would need with a two-run double in the bottom of the first, and the lead was 5-0 after Cartwright helped himself with an RBI double in the second.
The Mustangs closed out the game with a nine-run fourth, with Cartwright closing the show with a triple to drive in the final run.
Tommy Van Beber took the loss after allowing 13 runs, nine earned, on six hits with eight walks and a strikeout over three and a third. The Rebels slipped to 12-10 ahead of Thursday’s regular-season finale at Edmonson County.
Cartwright finished 2/2 with two RBI, Colton Carver and Madix Brannon each drove in two runs, and Brigance had a hit and three RBI.
