Lyon Long Balls Rout Caldwell 16-3 (w/PHOTOS)

Lyon County slammed three home runs while rolling past Caldwell County 16-3 in five innings during action Tuesday at the VFW Ballpark in Princeton.

John Bingham had two of those long balls. He had a two-run shot to left in the top of the first inning as Lyon jumped out to an early 4-0 lead. Bingham drilled a three-run homer to left as part of a nine-run fifth inning that put the game away.

Austin Spears added a three-run shot in the second inning that gave the Lyons a 7-0 advantage.

Caldwell (18-5) scratched out a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to get within 7-2. But that’s where the score stayed until Lyon’s outburst in the fifth.

Lyon (16-7) sent 15 batters to the plate in the big frame.

Bingham finished 2-for-3 at the plate with five runs batted in. Korben Lucas was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Spears was 2-for-5 and drove in five. Eli Baker went 2-for-3 with a double while knocking in two.

Colton Prow added a double while Peyton Williams and Hudson Phillips each singled.

Caldwell had five singles — one each from Luke Parker, Drew Stevens, Channing Puckett, Derek Wilson and David Ginn.

Baker picked up the win on the mound for Lyon.

Scott Cortner suffered the pitching loss for Caldwell.

The Lyons have now taken four straight from the Tigers and nine of the last 12 matchups.

Caldwell will look to bounce back when it goes to Ballard Memorial on Thursday.

Lyon does not have another game scheduled until the 5th District tournament next week.

Caldwell second grader Bryar Howard threw out the first pitch prior to Tuesday’s contest.
