Two runs on errors and two more on passed balls were the difference in Hopkinsville’s 5-1 loss at Muhlenberg County on Tuesday.  Despite matching the Mustangs with four hits and getting a solid outing on the mound from Andrew Mayes, the Tigers dropped their second straight and fourth in their last five games.

Hopkinsville took advantage of a Muhlenberg error to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Mustangs’ pitcher Dalton Brigance shut down the Tiger offense from there.

Muhlenberg opened the bottom of the second with three straight singles to load the bases before the Tigers’ first miscue allowed two runs to score.  Runs on passed balls made it 4-1, and Talan Cartwright grounded out to plate the final run.

Brigance allowed an unearned run on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts over five and two-thirds innings.  Jake Creek drove in two runs to help the Mustangs improve to 18-7 with their fifth win in a row.

Hopkinsville slipped to 12-12 ahead of a trip to face Apollo on Thursday.
