
It did not take long for the University Heights Academy Blazers to finish the job Wednesday night and lock down the #2 seed for next week’s 8th District baseball tournament. Behind two long balls from Hayden Hunt, the Blazers rolled to a 12-1 5-inning win at Fort Campbell in the game that was suspended Monday evening due to heavy rain on post.
The game resumed with two outs in the top of the third with UHA leading 1-0, but the Blazers had the bases loaded. Two hit batters and an RBI single from Jackson Flynn later, the score was 4-0 and the Blazers were on their way.
UHA added five runs in the top of the fourth, using the long ball to do most of the damage. Hayden Hunt had a solo shot, while Jaiden Miles blasted a three-run shot to left field as the lead grew to 9-0.
Hunt again went deep in the top of the 5th, this time with a three-run shot, as UHA moved the lead out to 12-0.
Fort Campbell scratched out a run in the bottom half of the inning off an error by the Blazers.
Hayden Hunt had a big night going 2-3 with two home runs, 4 RBIs, and 4 runs scored. Jaiden Miles was 2-2 with a home run and 4 RBIs.
For the game, the Blazers outhit the Falcons 8 to 4.
Nolan Starnater, Colton Ramos, Karl Kalen, and Branson Bussy had one hit each for the Falcons.
Timmy Hallmark came in to finish the game and pitch the final three innings for UHA. He gave up one run on four hits, striking out two and walking one.
With the win, the Blazers lockdown the #2 seed and will be the home team in the 5:30pm game Monday against #3 seed Hopkinsville in the 8th District tournament on the Blazers’ home field.
Fort Campbell will match up against Heritage Christian at HCA at 4:30pm Monday with the winner to scoot across town to face Christian County at 7pm in the second semifinal game. That game will be played at UHA.
