Track and field records don’t fall by the wayside often for Trigg County’s storied program, but a new one was set this week.
Alivia Norwood produced a throw of 93 feet, 11 inches in the discus throw at Tuesday’s Caldwell County quad meet, which eclipsed the 22-year-old record of 93-8 set by Sharda Whitlock at the 2004 state meet.
The Trigg County junior had been inching closer to the new mark during the season. She holds five of the school’s top 10 distances, with all five coming this season.
Norwood’s record toss resulted in her first win of the season in the event as she prepares for the Class 2A Region 1 Meet on Tuesday in Murray.
