Sara Welshans took care of business again on Wednesday as she claimed her second straight girls’ region singles title.
The Webster County senior defeated Madisonville’s Macey Browning 6-0, 6-1 for the championship, wrapping up a four-match run that saw Welshans drop only four games.
She is the first girls’ singles repeat champion since Caldwell County’s Belle Englebright won three straight from 2017-19.
Welshans, the top seed, defeated three-seed Ella Johnson of Caldwell County, 6-0, 6-0 in Wednesday’s semifinals at Henderson County.
Browning, the two-seed, beat Henderson County’s Jaylee Duncan, the four-seed, 6-3, 6-2 in the other semifinal.
All four semifinalists will advance to the KHSAA State Tennis Tournament, which will be held May 27-29 in Lexington.
