Several area baseball teams have been recognized for how they conduct themselves on the field. The 2nd Region Baseball Pennyrile Umpires Association Friday morning announced the teams it would be recognizing for their behavior on the field.
Each year, the association votes on the team that exhibits the best sportsmanship.
This year’s winning team was Heritage Christian Academy. The Warriors will be recognized at the first round of the regional tournament at Lee S. Jones Park.
Madisonville-North Hopkins was voted as the runner-up. Honorable Mention recognition went to Webster County, Hopkins County Central, and Hopkinsville High School.
Guidelines for the voting include:
– coaches, players and school administration consistently respecting competitions, student-athletes, coaches and officials
– encouraging student-athletes to demonstrate good sportsmanship and ethical conduct in and out of competition
– acting with integrity and respect for others across all endeavors, following all of the rules and respecting the calls officials make
– not trash-talking opponents
– demonstrating fairness, respect, honesty, unselfishness, and responsibility.
