A Hopkins County Central cheerleader will realize her dream of cheering in college.
Morgan Capps has earned a spot on the coed cheer team at Western Kentucky University.
Capps’ journey to college cheerleading stepped into high gear while the Hopkins Central squad was at Nationals in Orlando, Florida. in February.
Capps was noticed by a recruiter for the university of South Florida. From there, she met with the recruiter and stunted with the athletes that they brought to visit.
That session sparked Capps’ interest in wanting to continue her journey collegiately. She began attending private lessons in Bowling Green and was encouraged to go to a clinic with WKU.
At that clinic, the coach noticed her and invited her to continue coming to practices and open gyms with the program. She continued this over the next three months.
That eventually led her to tryouts this past week, and ultimately earning a spot for the 2025-2026 season for the WKU coed team.
“She’s an extremely hard worker and I’m so grateful to have watched her grow on this journey,” said Rachel Starks, Capps’ cheer coach at Hopkins Central.
Your Sports Edge spoke with Capps on Wednesday at a ceremony in Mortons Gap.
