
Caldwell County and Crittenden County squeezed in one final regular-season baseball game on Saturday, just ahead of the district tournaments.
The Tigers will carry a 19-5 record into postseason after running past the Rockets 15-4 in Marion in a game that was a makeup date from Friday night.
Caldwell never trailed after scoring three times in the top of the first inning. The Tigers added four more in the third to go up 7-0 and held an 11-1 lead in the fifth inning.
Crittenden (10-15-1) scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to extend the game, but Caldwell put up a four-spot in the seventh to stretch the final margin to 11 runs.
Channing Puckett was 3-for-5 and knocked in a pair of runs for the Tigers. Westin King was 2-for-2 with an RBI while Collin Whittington went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in.
Luke Parker and Drew Stevens each finished 2-for-5 with a double. David Ginn doubled while Mitchell Phelps and Scott Cortner each singled.
Four Caldwell pitchers combined to limit Crittenden to just two earned runs on two base hits.
Puckett, Ethan Ramage, Phelps and Cortner totaled 13 strikeouts as the Tigers won on Senior Day at Crittenden.
The Rockets got singles from Quinn Summers and Chase Conyer.
Caldwell has taken seven straight from Crittenden.
Crittenden will play again on Sunday in the semifinals of the 5th District tournament. The Rockets are scheduled to face Trigg County at 4 p.m.
Caldwell is slated to play in the championship game of the 7th District tournament Tuesday night at 6:00 at Madisonville.
