The Hopkinsville Tigers have hit a bit of a tough stretch as the regular season ended Saturday. Calloway County rallied from a 5-2 deficit Saturday afternoon by scoring the final 8 runs of the game to hand the Tigers their fourth straight loss.
The day started well enough for the Tigers. Hopkinsville scored a run in the top of the third on a Gavin Mitchell single to right to take a 1-0 lead.
After the Lakers plated two in the bottom of the third, Hopkinsville rallied with four runs in the top of the fourth to get back to the lead. After loading the bases on back-to-back-to-back singles, Andrew Mayes was hit by a pitch to tie the game at 2-2.
Layton Lindsey walked to force in the go-ahead run at 3-2. Dylan Sweeney drove in a pair of runs with a single to right as Hopkinsville ended the top of the fourth leading 5-2.
Calloway County came back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 5-4 and then the Lakers grabbed firm control with five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 9-5 lead. Two Hopkinsville errors were big factors in the inning.
Calloway County added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.
Gavin Mitchell and Gavin Powell each had two hits for Hopkinsville. Dylan Sweeney added two RBIs.
Josh Embrey got the start and went four innings on the mound for the Tigers.
Hopkinsville finishes the regular season at 12-14.
